• Clark, Brand lead Panthers to regional win (bnd.com) — High school baseball fans in Du Quoin just saw the Class 2A Du Quoin Regional decided, with Pinckneyville rallying past Herrin 5-3 to repeat as regional champs. Strong pitching from Abel Clark and a big day at the plate for Michael Brand helped the Panthers advance to the Benton Sectional, while Herrin’s season ended despite multiple early scoring chances.

• Ola Hoorebeke (riverbender.com) — Burial services for 98-year-old Ola Mae Van Hoorebeke will take place at Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin on Saturday, June 6, at 1:30 p.m. The longtime O’Fallon resident, born in Tamaroa and a former Pinckneyville High School secretary, is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and talented artist. Friends are invited to visitation and funeral services earlier that day in O’Fallon.
