Missouri man charged in Edwardsville IL burglary case (thetelegraph.com) — A Springfield, Missouri man has been charged in connection with multiple alleged burglaries, property damage, and an attempted arson targeting businesses on Redbud Lane and downtown Edwardsville. Court documents describe damaged vehicles and buildings, a towel stuffed into a gas tank, and threats to burn a business if he was released. The suspect is jailed and remains innocent unless proven guilty.

Jerseyville man charged with soliciting Edwardsville child after sex sting (bnd.com) — Edwardsville police ran an online sting that led to felony charges against a Jerseyville man accused of attempting to meet a person he believed was a 12-year-old Edwardsville girl. Investigators say he used social media and planned meetings at an Edwardsville bike trail and residence. He is being held in jail while prosecutors seek to deny pretrial release.

Southwestern Illinois expands geospatial workforce pipeline through NGA partnerships (ibjonline.com) — Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has formalized a new education partnership with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency to better align its coursework with fast-growing geospatial industry needs. Together with a broader regional agreement via Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois, the deal is meant to create clearer career pathways for local students and strengthen the metro area’s role as a national geospatial hub.

Pritzker and IBM Collaborate to Bring 750 New Jobs to the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park, hire City Colleges of Chicago Students (ccc.edu) — Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will help feed talent into IBM’s new FutureNow Chicago tech center by offering internships that connect SIUE students to high-demand careers in AI, quantum, and microelectronics. The project, centered at Chicago’s Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park, is expected to create 750 jobs and expand apprenticeship and workforce programs that Edwardsville-area students can tap into for cutting-edge opportunities.
