2 Arrested for Shooting in Elgin

Two were injured in the shooting on May 29 in Elgin.

ELGIN, IL - Two men have been arrested for their role in a gang-related shooting in Elgin last month. The shooting occurred in the 700 block of Walnut Avenue at about 3:55 p.m. and left two victims with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to police. On Thursday, Jesus Martinez, 26, and Victor Garcia, 21, were both arrested in Aurora and charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, which is a Class X felony.

Garcia was also charged with two counts of battery, a class A misdemeanor.

The Elgin Police Department's gang crimes unit investigated the shooting and identified Garcia and Martinez as suspects. During a follow-up investigation, detectives learned the duo had fled to Aurora, according to a statement posted on the Elgin Police Department's Facebook page on Friday.

On Thursday, with the help of the Aurora Police Department’s Special Operations Group and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, both Martinez and Garcia were taken into custody, according to police.

Bail has been set at $300,000 for both Martinez and Garcia who remain in custody at the Kane County Judicial Center.

“We are proud of the diligence displayed by our officers, as well as the cooperation we received from outside agencies, that resulted in the apprehension of two dangerous criminals," said Elgin Police Department Chief Jeffrey Swoboda. "We have no tolerance for gang crimes in our neighborhoods and our officers are very good at putting those who commit gang crimes in jail where they belong."
