Bail Set at $5 Million For 2 Charged In Double-Fatal Shooting
The Chicago men are accused of fatally shooting two Elgin men on Sunday afternoon.

ELGIN, IL – Two Chicago men are in custody on murder charges for fatally shooting two Elgin men in an apartment parking lot on Sunday afternoon, authorities said late Tuesday. Lee Spain, 32, of the 8000 block of South Ellis Street in Chicago, and Travaris Stevenson, 22, of the 5000 block of West Congress Parkway, were detained following the April 29 shooting in the 0 to 100 block of Longwood Place. Two men, Mark McDaniel, 26, of the 1000 block of Todd Farm in Elgin, and Raymond Dyson, 29, of the 0 to 100 block of Dumbarton Oaks Place in Elgin, were taken to area hospitals following the shooting, which occurred at about 2:08 p.m. on Sunday, where they were later pronounced dead.
On Wednesday, bail was set at $5 million for both Spain and Stevenson, the Elgin Courier-News reports.
No information into a possible motive was released regarding the shooting. But police did say that within 20 minutes of the shooting, patrol officers found Spain and Stevenson, who matched descriptions provided of the shooters, according to a post on the Elgin Police Department Facebook page.

“The arrest of Mr. Spain and Mr. Stevenson are a direct result of people in our community becoming immediately involved by notifying 9-1-1 and providing statements as to what they saw and heard,” said Elgin Police Department Deputy Chief Bill Wolf. “Because of their information, officers were able to quickly apprehend subjects that matched those description."
The two men were detained by Elgin Police and on Tuesday, they were charged with the following:

- Stevenson has been charged with eight counts of first-degree murder, a Class M felony; one count of unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, a Class 3 felony; and one count of unlawful possession of marijuana, a Class 4 felony
- Spain was charged with four counts of first degree murder, a Class M felony; one count of unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, a Class 3 felony; and one count of unlawful possession of marijuana, a Class 4 felony
Prosecutors said Stevenson was convicted of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance to a person under the age of 18 and released on parole in that case in 2014, according to the Elgin Courier-News. Authorities said he is also a suspect in a Chicago shooting.
Meanwhile, authorities said the double fatal shooting in Elgin remains under investigation.
