For 2nd Time In Week, Gasser Posts 'Fake News' Sign

Andrew Gasser has been posting signs outside the township building in Crystal Lake, referring to the Northwest Herald as "fake news."

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL -- For the second time this week, Algonquin Township Highway Commissioner Andrew Gasser posted a message on a government-owned sign outside the township building blasting the Northwest Herald. Both signs, the first one initially misspelled Northwest, claimed the local newspaper had "fake news." The most recent sign on Tuesday read, “SENIOR BUS IS NOT ABANDONED. MORE UNETHICAL NORTHWORST HERALD FAKE NEWS.”

Trustee Rachael Lawrence called Gasser and said she would be removing the message, according to the Northwest Herald.

Lawrence told the newspaper that Gasser said: "Don't touch my sign." She did and she also returned the letters from the marquee to the township's office, which is at 3702 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

On Friday, Gasser posted the following message on the marquee: “THE NORHTWORST HERALD IS FAKE NEWS.” The Northwest Herald called Gasser to let him know of the misspelling. Gasser went ahead and changed it to "NORTHWORST," according to an article over the weekend on the Northwest Herald.

Many area residents have blasted Gasser's signs on Facebook. Many said it was a mis-use of government funds. Others decried his actions as unprofessional and childish.
