3 Men Order Pizza, Assault Driver, Steal Car: Police

The stolen pizza delivery car was found later that night in Chicago and the three men were taken into custody.

ELGIN, IL — A pizza delivery driver had a long night Tuesday, as three men ordered a pizza to the 1600 block of Mulberry Lane, assaulted the delivery person and stole his car, reports say.

Marco Sarmiento, 20, Justin Tackett, 23, both of the 1600 block of Mulberry Lane, and Julio Hernandez, 25, of the 6000 block of South Fairfield Avenue in Chicago, were all charged with armed robbery without a firearm, robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle, the Daily Herald reported.

The incident happened at about 9 p.m. Tuesday. Police in the area were approached by the delivery driver, who told them he was robbed and his vehicle was stolen, according to the Herald.

Elgin police spokesperson Kristie Hilton said the driver told police the three men demanded the food and other items before driving off in his car. Hilton said the driver was hit in the head with a blunt object, the Herald reported.

The driver was treated at a local hospital and released.

Chicago police stopped the stolen vehicle later that evening, according to the Herald, in the 10000 block of South Beverly Avenue and took the three into custody.

All three men were schedule to appear in court Thursday.
