Voices Unlimited Chorus begins fall rehearsals for upcoming holiday concert (dailyherald.com) — Voices Unlimited Chorus is inviting Elgin-area singers to join fall rehearsals starting Sept. 15 at Journey of Hope United Methodist Church at Highland and Randall. No audition or music-reading skills are required to help prepare a festive holiday concert featuring familiar favorites like "White Christmas" alongside more inspirational pieces, with the performance set for Dec. 5.
3. Elgin man to serve 65 years in prison for murdering pregnant wife (chicagotribune.com) — An Elgin man has been sentenced to 65 years in prison for fatally stabbing his pregnant estranged wife in 2024, a crime that drew an extensive response from Elgin police and Kane County prosecutors. Authorities say he attacked her at his Bluff City Boulevard residence, then fled in her car before later admitting the killing, with state law requiring he serve the full term.
4. Second measles case of the year reported in Kane County, health department says (chicagotribune.com) — Kane County health officials have confirmed a second measles case this year, linked to an earlier infection that generated up to 1,600 potential exposures, including at a South Elgin pediatric clinic. Residents, especially those unvaccinated or unsure of their status, are urged to review their measles immunizations, monitor for symptoms after possible exposure, and follow quarantine or isolation guidance if contacted by the health department.
