Authorities ID 3 Killed In 2 Crashes Sunday In Bartlett

BARTLETT, IL — The three people killed in two separate crashes Sunday in Bartlett have been identified. The first collision, which involved two vehicles and occurred at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday on Route 49 near Auburn Lane, claimed the life of Katheryn Wirsing, 49, of Winfield. Two hours later, Darion Garner, 25, and Latasha Lawson, 31, both of Streamwood, died in a single-vehicle crash, which occurred at about 12:45 p.m. on Lake Street/U.S Route 20 near the westbound ramp from Route 59, according to the Daily Herald.

Garner was driving a Ford Escape when he reportedly lost control and the vehicle rolled over, left the road and hit a chain-link fence and utility pole, according to the Daily Herald. Lawson was a passenger in the car. Five other passengers in the vehicle were taken to area hospitals with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Garner was reportedly swerving back and forth at the time of the collision but witnesses said he was driving close to the posted speed limit, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

As for the two-vehicle crash two hours earlier, police said Wirsing was driving a 2015 Ford Fiesta north on Route 59 when she crossed the centerline and hit a 2016 Subaru WRX, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The driver of the Suburu was taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
