Border Separation Protest Planned For Elgin

Families Belong Together is a series of national protests, and the city of Elgin will host one of the rallies Saturday.

ELGIN, IL — Those opposed to the Trump administration's practice of separating children from parents who cross illegally into the United States can stop out to protest held Saturday in Elgin and St. Charles. The local events are part of Families Belong Together, a series of nationwide protests condemning the border separation policy.

The Elgin protest will begin at 11 a.m. on June 30 at the corner of Kimball Street and Grove Avenue in Elgin – "on the other side of the library," according to the event post.

"Join us on June 30 to send a clear message to Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress: Families Belong Together," the event post read. The St. Charles protest will also being at 11 a.m. on all four corners of Randall and Route 64. Those stopping out are encouraged to bring water, sunscreen and hats to protect themselves during the extreme heat in the forecast for Saturday.

Parking is available on all four corners, according to the event post. Attendees are encouraged to try to avoid smaller private lots. There is a Costco nearby with plenty of parking and other nearby lots include the parking at Starbucks, the empty lot in the northwest corner and the lot behind the vet office on the north side.

Other rallies and marches will be held in Barrington, Highland Park, Arlington Heights, Downers Grove, Frankfort, Glenview, Aurora, Joliet, and Rockford.
