Boy Badly Beaten in Middle School Attack is Back Home

Henry Sembdner is out of the hospital but still has a long road to recovery.

Henry Sembdner, the 12-year-old boy who was badly beaten by a fellow classmate in South Elgin last week, is out of the hospital and back at his home.

Sembdner suffered brain and skull injuries after he was slammed into the ground when he bumped into another student a Kenyon Woods Middle School on Friday, according to the Daily Herald. He was placed in an induced coma for much of the weekend and spent the start of this week still in the hospital.

The alleged attacker was arrested and taken to the South Elgin Police Department.

On Tuesday, his mother, Karen DeWilde Sembdner, tweeted a photo of Henry with his family sitting on their couch and wrote: “You heard it here first … Henry is home!”

The boy still has a long road to recovery, his mom, Karen DeWilde Sembdner, wrote on the family’s Caring Bridge page. As a part of that recovery, the family is limiting visitors to prevent the spread of any germs or illnesses to allow Henry’s brain to heal. Follow-up visits with 10 different doctors will be scheduled in the coming days as well.
