Elgin Area Chamber Of Commerce: ''Welcome Back, Elgin'' Celebrates The Arts And The Newly Renovated Civic Plaza

  Elgin, IL -  The City of Elgin, the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission and Seigle Foundation welcome the Elgin community to the newly renovated Civic Plaza to celebrate the arts. “Welcome back, Elgin!” is a family-friendly celebration of the arts that will take place on Sunday, August 22 at 1:30 p.m., culminating in a free concert sponsored by Chamber Music on the Fox featuring internationally acclaimed violinist Rachel Barton Pine, at 3:00 p.m.

Wander the plaza and enjoy the various arts offerings that Elgin has to showcase including balloon artists, dance, live theatre and more. Kids will be able to enjoy a pop-up park and arts and craft stations. Food trucks will be on site to offer a variety of meal and snack options during the event. Details on specific artists and food trucks will be announced soon on the City's website and Facebook event.

“It’s so great to get back to enjoying the arts live again,” said Assistant to the City Manager Amanda Harris. “Elgin has so many wonderful artists and arts organizations, and it’s exciting to be able to see so much at once in the beautifully renovated plaza.”

The event will conclude with a live concert in the Hemmens Cultural Center, sponsored by Chamber Music on the Fox, which will also streamed to the plaza. Rachel Barton Pine will lead the ensemble in a performance of Mozart’s stunning C Major String Quintet as well as the masterful Souvenir de Florence by Tchaikovsky. Tickets to the concert are free, but reservations are required. Social distancing and masks required are also required. Non-ticketed attendees are invited to bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the music from the plaza. Following the concert, attendees are encouraged to visit our downtown restaurants and shops to further enjoy what Elgin has to offer. Tickets to the concert can be purchased at as hemmens.org/tickets beginning on Tuesday, August 3 at 10:00 a.m.
