Elgin Man Trashed Woman's Apartment, Choked Her Outside Bar: Police

ELGIN, IL - Bail has been set at $50,000 for a 22-year-old Elgin man who is accused of breaking into and trashing a woman's apartment at Elgin's Artspace Lofts and then later choking that same women. Darian K. Greco, of the 1300 block of Wing Street in Elgin, has been charged with burglary, aggravated domestic battery-strangle, domestic battery which causes bodily harm and domestic battery make physical contact in connection with the attack. He has remained in custody at the Kane County Jail since his arrest last week.

Police were first called at 11:30 p.m. on April 20 by a friend of the 24-year-old victim who said the woman's first-floor apartment at 51 S. Spring Street had been burglarized, the Daily Herald reports. The woman then went to track Greco down, who she believed was responsible; found him at Elgin Public House; and started yelling at him. They went outside and Greco allegedly hit the woman before getting on top of her and choking her. An employee at the bar was able to pull Greco off and then called police.

Greco is also accused of damaging artwork in the hallway at Artspace Lofts, according to the newspaper.

He is expected back in court on Thursday.
