Coroner IDs Stabbing Victim In Elgin Murder: UPDATE

The 36-year-old man was found bleeding in a parking lot in Elgin and later died, police said.

ELGIN, IL -- The Kane County Coroner has identified the 36-year-old man found bleeding in a parking lot early Saturday as Bayron Cruz of Wood Dale. Police were called to the parking lot in the 1100 block of Jansen Farm at about 1:54 a.m. on Saturday, authorities said. Cruz was taken to the emergency room Sherman Hospital where he later died.

A preliminary cause of death shows Cruz died from multiple stab wounds, Kane County Coroner Rob Russell said Monday in a news release. Toxicology samples have been sent to a forensic lab for analysis.

The death is being considered a homicide and is the first murder in Elgin so far this year.

Authorities believe Cruz was specifically targeted and there is no danger to the public. Authorities are asking for the public's help to provide any tips as they continue to investigate the murder.
