Facelift for Tiny Bartlett Homes

Cost effective suggestions for updating your tiny home.

In the suburb of Bartlett, IL, there is a subdivision of tiny homes along the downtown Metra train line near Oneida Avenue called the Bartlett Green Subdivision. The homes were originally built in 1974. For homeowners in Bartlett Green, they know all too well about the economic advantages as well as space restricted disadvantages of tiny home living. “I can’t afford to fix up my house to sell it, I won’t get much money for it, and I don’t want to give it away” said, Debbie K., a resident for over 13 years.

Omega Remodeling decided to lend a listening ear to Bartlett Green Homeowners. They offered an informal help session to brainstorm for cost effective ways to update the homes to a more modern look. Their mission was to encourage local homeowners to shop smart and shop local. “We have lots of great local stores that offer better prices than venturing out beyond the area. During certain months you can really get more pull for your dollar by just waiting for the right sales. Always ask about upcoming sales events to time out your remodeling projects. This can save you as much as 30% or more off of regular prices. “explained, Alberto, Omega Remodeling spokesperson.

The tiny homes as known as quad condominiums, offer various challenges that need to be considered in addition to a general paint and flooring facelift. Omega made homeowners aware of the proper outlets, fire alarm placement, and more. “Some of these homes need to have the plumbing updated under the bathroom and kitchen sink; there are better alternatives now if you haven’t had it looked at in 7+ years.”

Neil S. discussed the challenges of being a landlord renting his newly updated quad unit. “I don’t think anyone really wants a tiny home, they want a good quality roof over their head to save money and take care of their family. Every time a tenant comes in, I try to get the house in perfect move in condition, buying good water resistant flooring with a lifetime warranty was my best investment. Make your walls pop with white or light colors so you can feel like you have some breathing room.”

Other factors to consider in tiny home living would be, choosing furnishings that have a multi-purpose. You can save more space by having high chairs at kitchen countertop vs. taking up space with a dining room set. A fold out couch in a small bedroom or living room offers more flexible living space than a mattress set. Hanging panoramic scene art prints and paintings can offer a perception of a window that can make a space appear more open and inviting. Do you have tiny home facelift ideas?
