Former Library Board Trustee Arrested For Domestic Battery

The domestic battery stems from an incident that involved Randolph Hopp's 90-year-old mother.

ELGIN, IL – A former library board member faces a misdemeanor domestic battery charge following a Friday incident at his home in Elgin, authorities said. Authorities said they were called to the home of Randolph "Randy" Hopp by his 90-year-old mother, who shares the Pamela Drive home with Hopp, after he would not let three family members into the residence, according to the Elgin Courier-News. The family members were hoping to clean the basement of the home so the city could access a water meter.
When police arrived at the home, Hopp, who once sat on the Gail Borden Public Library District Board, would not let officers speak to his mom, told them they were trespassing and blocked the 90-year-old woman from answering the door while he bumped into the walker she used to get around, according to the article.

It's not the first time Hopp has gotten in trouble with the law. During the spring 2017 local election, Hopp was arrested and charged for stealing campaign signs from yards.

Hopp ran unsuccessfully during the 2017 election for a spot on the Gail Borden Library Board of Trustees. He did serve on the board of trustees for one term after being elected in 2009, according to the Elgin Courier-News. He lost a bid for re-election in 2013.
