Funds Raised for Funerals of Brothers Killed in Crash West of Huntley

The McHenry County Coroner has identified the brothers as Leonardo Rangel-Jimenez, 31, and Alejandro Rangel-Jimenez, 35.

ELGIN, IL - An online fundraiser has been set up to help pay for the funeral services of a 35-year-old Elgin man and his 31-year-old brother who were both killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in McHenry County. On Thursday morning, McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski identified the men as Leonardo Rangel-Jimenez, 31, and Alejandro Rangel-Jimenez, 35. The collision occurred when a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta lost control while heading north on Route 20 near Harmony Road in unincorporated Riley Township at about 5:28 a.m.

The car traveled into the southbound lane where it hit a 2013 Ford F-550 Super Duty truck head on, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

Leonardo Rangel-Jimenez was driving the car at the time of the crash while his older brother was a passenger in the vehicle, Majewski said in a news release. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Ford, a 27-year-old Marengo man, and a 42-year-old passenger, a Capron man, were not injured in the crash, according to the news release.

An autopsy revealed Leonardo Rangel-Jimenez died from blunt trauma to the head and chest while Alejandro Rangel-Jimenez died from blunt trauma to the head, according to the coroner's office. Toxicology samples have been sent to a lab for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, the wife of Alejandro Rangel-Jimenez is asking for the public's help to pay for her husband and her brother-in-law's funeral services, according to a GoFundMe page set up to bring in funds for the family. As of Thursday morning, almost $700 had been raised.
