K-9 Finds 2 Kilos Of Cocaine Hidden In Car: Police

A traffic stop lead police to search a car and arrest a 30-year-old man on drug charges.


ELGIN, IL – AA 30-year-old Rockford man faces drug charges after police pulled him over in Elgin and a K-9 officer found two kilos of suspected cocaine hidden in his vehicle, authorities said. Andrew Ramirez has been charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony; and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a Class X felony.

Authorities pulled over Ramirez's car in the area of East Chicago Street and Riverside Drive at about 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 18, according to a Facebook post from the Elgin Police Department.

During the traffic stop, a K-9 dog was used to inspect the vehicle. The K-9 alerted police to the presence of illegal narcotics. A more thorough search revealed about two kilograms of suspect cocaine hidden within the vehicle, according to police.

“This is another example of excellent proactive police work to get dangerous drugs off our streets,” Elgin Police Chief Jeffrey Swoboda said.

Ramirez is scheduled to appear in Kane County bond court Thursday.
