Slag Cement in Sustainable Concrete Award Winners Announced (consupt.com) — McLean Boulevard in Elgin, Ill., has been honored in a national awards program recognizing sustainable concrete projects that use slag cement for stronger, more durable infrastructure. The project stands alongside 13 others nationwide, highlighting how greener construction materials are being used in roads, bridges, and major facilities across the country.
   

2. Beloit Memorial heads to Woodstock North for Week 2 game (gazettextra.com) — Woodstock North, which just beat Elgin 42-14 after trailing at halftime, now hosts Beloit Memorial in a non-conference matchup Friday night. The Thunder lean heavily on the triple-option run game, so their performance against Elgin offers a clear preview of the physical, ball-control style local fans can expect this week.
   

3. U.S. House Prices Rise 2.1 Percent Year over Year; Up 0.3 percent Quarter over Quarter (fhfa.gov) — Home prices in the Elgin metro area saw the strongest annual gain among the nation's 100 largest metros, rising 7.7% from Q2 2025 to Q2 2026. A new FHFA report shows Illinois overall near the top for appreciation, and offers detailed, publicly available data on price trends down to metro and ZIP code levels.
   

4. Kaneland High School back in-person Wednesday after possible measles exposure shifted classes to virtual (chicagotribune.com) — Families who visited Next Generation Pediatric Clinic in South Elgin on Aug. 21 between 12:30 and 4 p.m. are being asked to monitor for measles symptoms through Sept. 8 after a confirmed Kane County case. Kaneland High School briefly shifted to virtual learning but has returned to in-person classes as officials verify vaccination records. Health authorities stress that vaccinated people face low risk but urge anyone unprotected or symptomatic to follow quarantine and call their doctor before seeking care.
