Funeral Service To Honor Elgin Veteran Who Died Without Family
Laird Funeral Home is asking the public to pay its respects to Lance Cpl. Stephen Alan Myerson, who had no family when he died in September.
ELGIN, IL — An Elgin funeral home is calling for residents to help them honor an Elgin veteran who died three months ago without any family, the Daily Herald reports.
Lance Cpl. Stephen Alan Myerson, a Marine veteran who served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970, died Sept. 11 at Citadel Care Center in Elgin, the report states. He was 72.
During his service, he earned a National Defense Service Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal, the Daily Herald reports.

Laird Funeral Home is set to donate a public service for Myerson, and its staff is asking residents to help them pay tribute to the decorated veteran.

“When something like this happens where there is no one else, we're just happy we're able to provide dignified services that are well-deserving of a Marine who served his country," Corey Short, of Laird, told the Daily Herald.
The service is scheduled to run from 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Laird Funeral Home, with coronavirus-safety protocols in place. Myerson will be buried with honors that afternoon in Elwood’s Lincoln National Cemetery.
