Death Of 6-Year-Old Ruled A Homicide: Medical Examiner
The boy was found unresponsive by his mother. As paramedics arrived, they could not revive him. It was ruled a death by homicide.

ROUND LAKE BEACH, IL — The death of a 6-year-old last summer in the South Side Calumet Heights neighborhood has been ruled a homicide by child abuse, according to reports.
Carl Rice, of Round Lake Beach, was found unresponsive by his mother at 9:30 a.m. on July 1 in a home in the 9300 block of South Clyde, the Chicago Sun Times reported Chicago police as saying. Paramedics came to the scene as the mother called 911, but were unable to revive Carl.
The initial autopsy didn't rule out any cause of death, but on Friday, Nov. 3, the medical examiner's office ruled the death a homicide by multiple injuries from child abuse, the Sun Times reported.

The investigation was turned over to Round Lake Beach police. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services had no previous contact with the boy or his family, according to the Sun Times. The DCFS has been investigating the boy's death alongside local authorities.
