School Shooting Threat at Larkin High Not Valid: Police

The rumor of the school shooting was determined to be false and was done as a prank, police said.

ELGIN, IL - The Elgin Police Department has determined rumors surrounding the threat of a school shooting at Larkin High School were false, police said. The rumors of the shooting "were thoroughly investigated" and authorities have identified the individuals responsible for spreading the rumors. It has been determined it "was done as a prank," according to a Facebook post from the Elgin Police Department.

The shooting was rumored to occur on May 11. Larkin High School, 1475 Larkin Ave. in Elgin, is planning to remain open on Thursday with a normal school day planned, police said. The Elgin Police Department and School District U-46 is taking extra steps and will have extra security to ensure the safety of the students and the staff at Larkin High School.

"...there is no reason to believe there is any validity to these rumors," according to the Facebook post.
