2 Disturbances At Apartments: Elmhurst Cops

In one case, a person got confrontational with office staff, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving disturbances at an apartment complex, retail theft, a car break-in, a dog bite, damaged cars and theft at a condo complex, among other incidents. Here is information from the reports:

Disturbances at apartments

  • Police responded to a disturbance about 11 a.m. Monday at the leasing office for the Elmhurst Terrace Apartments, 100 Fellows Court. A person used foul language and was confrontational with the office staff. The person was given a no-trespass notice.
  • A woman told police she was involved in an argument with her ex-boyfriend, which turned physical. It happened about 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Elmhurst Terrace Apartments, 100 Fellows Corut. She refused to provide the suspect's information and said she had ended communication with him. The man was described as black, in his early 20s, 5-foot-11, having a skinny build and small dreadlocks, and wearing a black hat and dark hoodie.

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of North Kenilworth Avenue. An argument apparently got physical. No complaints were signed because of conflicting statements from both parties.
  • A domestic disturbance happened about 9 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of East Schiller Street. The suspect was served with an emergency order of protection.

Camera found

  • An Elmhurst Park District employee found a GoPro-style camera about 9 a.m. Monday near the Prairie Path and Fairview. The camera was entered into evidence for safekeeping.

  • Two men concealed two 750-milliliter bottles of Malibu pineapple rum and one bottle of Jose Cuervo Margarita about 3 p.m. Monday at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St.

Car break-in

  • Someone entered an unlocked Volkswagen Atlas about 6 a.m. Monday in an alley in the 100 block of North Myrtle Avenue. Nothing appeared to be missing.

Dog bite

  • A dog bite was reported about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Melrose Avenue. The dog's owner, Shannon Bixler, 35, of Elmhurst, was cited on a charge of unrestrained dog.

Converter theft

  • A catalytic converter was stolen from a vehicle between 6:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1000 block of Route 83.

Damaged cars

  • The driver's side window of a Chevrolet Silverado work truck was smashed about 10 a.m. Monday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. A gray Honda Odyssey minivan was seen on video near the truck, and glass appeared to be falling from the truck's window. Nothing was stolen.
  • Someone removed the rear driver's side tire from a car about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Courtyard by Marriott, 370 N. Route 83.
  • The front passenger's side window of a parked car was shattered overnight Tuesday at Courtyard by Marriott, 370 N. Route 83.

Theft at condos

  • Someone forced entry into a building between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday at a condominium complex at 135 S. York St. The person pried open several mailboxes, taking mail and packages. The suspect left the lobby and entered a parked car. An investigation is pending.

Damage at hospital

  • A person damaged water lines in two restrooms about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the waiting area of the emergency room at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. No complaints were signed. Maintenance staff repaired the damage.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 200 block of East Fremont Avenue told police Tuesday that someone used his personal information to open a Verizon Wireless account. The resident notified Verizon of the fraud.
