8 Complaints Against Elmhurst Cops Last Year: Report

Police reported how often drivers flee as officers attempted traffic stops.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police received eight citizen complaints against officers last year, according to the police department's annual report.

All the complaints were deemed to be unfounded or lacking enough evidence to prove or disprove the allegations.

The police are presenting their annual report to a City Council committee Monday.

In 2022, 49 investigations of officers were initiated based on concerns inside the department, according to the report.

These inquiries were about the use of force, vehicle pursuits and policy infractions such as equipment damage, the report said.

"All infractions were reviewed and handled with appropriate action ranging from corrective conference to written reprimand or, in some cases, suspension," the report said.

Elmhurst police handled about 41,000 incidents last year, or about 110 a day. Use of force was reported in a dozen instances, or once a month on average.

Elmhurst officers conducted about 7,400 traffic stops in 2022, with six reported incidents of vehicle pursuits.

In 2022, officers reported 84 vehicles that sped away as they attempted traffic stops.
