Activist Threats, Feline Intruder: Elmhurst Cops
A resident told officers about social media threats to his medical practice, police said.

ELMHURST, IL — In recent days, Elmhurst police handled calls involving activist threats, an unwelcome cat, a mystery over coins, thefts of catalytic converters, a police officer imposter, a tire slashing and a disturbance at a business. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Activist threats
- A resident in the 400 block of South Argyle Avenue told police Thursday that his co-workers notified him of threats posted on social media by an activist group regarding his medical practice.

- A cat, possibly a stray, entered a house and then bit a resident about 9:30 p.m. Jan. 8 in the 300 block of Parkview Avenue. The resident did not require medical attention. The cat was captured and taken to an animal hospital. The report was sent to DuPage County Animal Control.
Coin mystery
- A resident in the 400 block of West Butterfield told police Thursday that several coins were missing from a green box on the dresser. Then it was discovered that about two years ago, the coins were given to a trustee of the bank to sell for the resident.
Converter thefts

- A catalytic converter was removed from a vehicle parked at a business at 360 W. Butterfield Road between Wednesday and Thursday. Three others were stolen in the 800 and 900 blocks of North York Street between Thursday and Saturday.
- A suspicious vehicle was seen about 3 a.m. Sunday at Med Speed, 140 W. Industrial Drive. A suspect drove away after seeing officers. Upon investigation, a truck was found to be missing a catalytic converter. A Sawzall blade was found on the driver's side of the car. The suspect was last seen headed west on Interstate 290 from York Street.
Suspicious person at hotel
- A person at Extended Stay America, 550 W. Grand Ave., heard a loud noise and then saw a person under his car about 5:30 a.m. Friday. The person yelled at the suspect, who left in a newer model Ford sedan. The suspect was described as a black man, 6 feet, having a thin build, and wearing a sweatshirt, blue jeans and sneakers. At the same hotel the same day, a catalytic converter was reported stolen from a car.
Fraud
- Someone gained access to one of the checking accounts at International Body, 652 W. Lake St., and made fraudulent charges. The charges occurred between Dec. 20 to Jan. 14.
Cop imposter
- A person in the 600 block of North York Street received a phone call from someone identifying himself as a police officer and attempted to gain information from the person about 10 a.m. Friday. The suspect ended the call when the person questioned him.
Tire slashing
- The rear driver's side tire of a car was slashed between 6 p.m. Thursday and noon Friday in the 100 block of North Pine Street.
Business disturbance
- Officials responded to a report of a disturbance about 4:30 p.m. Friday at American Music World, 603 N. York St. A person entered the business to ask for money. He was served a no-trespass notice and left the area.
On the ground
- A youth was found drunk on the ground shortly before midnight Friday in the 400 block of North West Avenue. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital. He was later cited on a charge of consumption of alcohol by a minor and released to a guardian.
Bicycle found
- A red Raleigh Mojave bicycle was found abandoned at 5 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of North West Avenue. It was placed into evidence for safekeeping.
ATM incident
- A man who used the ATM at Wells Fargo Bank, 333 S. Route 83, told police Sunday that he later received notification that a suspect used his debit card and information at the same machine. The suspect withdrew money from the victim's account.
Suspicious knocker
- Police received a call about a suspicious person knocking on doors about 10:30 a.m. Sunday at The Marke of Elmhurst apartment building, 100 N. Addison Ave. Shortly after, he was found at Pilot Pete's coffee shop in the train station. It was determined that his family had reported him missing several times before. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
Confrontation
- A resident in the 600 block of North West Avenue told police Sunday that his caretaker jumped on him, but he could not remember what caused it. The suspect said the resident came at her aggressively, so she pushed him away and left the house.
Domestic disturbance
- A resident in the 100 block of North Avon Road told police Sunday that her ex-husband tried to break into her house. The ex-husband said he was there to drop off his daughter. Police learned the ex-husband still owned the house and was not breaking in.
Retail theft
- A man stole several items about 7 p.m. Sunday at Jewel, 944 S. York St. He was last seen headed east on Butterfield Road. An investigation is pending. The man was described as black, 200 pounds, in his 40s, and wearing a black hardhat with ear protection attached, a black and red flannel shirt, black pants, an N95 face mask and work boots.
