Air Gun Damage, Disturbance: Elmhurst Cops

Police received a report of damage from an air gun downtown.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a domestic disturbance, air gun damage, catalytic converter thefts, graffiti, an order of protection and fugitive drivers, among other offenses. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Domestic disturbance

  • Police were called to a domestic disturbance about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of South Bryan Street. A woman said she and a man got into an argument. It escalated when the man threatened to harm a co-worker if he showed up at the house. The woman confirmed the man did not threaten her.

  • Someone shot an air pistol or rifle shortly after midnight Sunday at York and Third, causing damage to a car. The suspect was driving a white four-door car. He was described as white, heavy-set, and having a ponytail and tattoos. A woman with him was described as white, heavy-set, having red and purple hair, and wearing a red shirt or hoodie.

Concealing and fleeing

  • Police stopped a man about 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of East First Street. He admitted to being in possession of marijuana. While police attempted to search his car, he concealed an item in his pants. He then entered his car and drove away. He was last seen speeding west on St. Charles Road. An investigation is pending. The man was described as white or Hispanic, 25 to 35 years old, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-11, 190 to 225 pounds, and having long black hair and a beard.

Converter thefts

  • A catalytic converter was stolen from a gray Toyota Tacoma between 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and 2:30 p.m. Thursday at York Meadows condos, 841 N. York St.
  • Police were called to a catalytic converter theft in progress about 8 p.m. Saturday at Courtyard by Marriott, 370 N. Route 83. When an officer arrived, the suspect sped away in a black Infiniti G37.

Check fraud

  • A resident in the 400 block of North Walnut Street told police Thursday that someone cashed a fraudulent check from his bank account. The money was initially withdrawn, but later reimbursed after the resident's bank determined it was fraudulent.

Alarming statements

  • A person made alarming statements about 9 p.m. Thursday at Shell gas station, 654 W. North Ave. The clerk did not wish to sign a complaint, but wanted the police to issue the person a no-trespass notice.

Graffiti

  • An officer noticed graffiti on the top level of the parking deck at 149 N. Addison Ave. The vandalism occurred between 11 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday.

Order of protection

  • Suspects were served a short form notification of an order of protection about 2:30 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of North Pine Street.

Car damage

  • The rear window of a 2022 white Lexus was shattered between 2 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday in a driveway in the 100 block of Seminole Avenue.

Fugitive drivers

  • Officers found a suspicious black Infiniti sedan about 11:30 a.m. Friday at Superior Ambulance, 395 W. Lake St. The driver sped away after seeing officers.
  • About 2 a.m. Sunday, an officer found a car reported stolen in Chicago. The driver failed to stop and sped away, last seen heading west on Interstate 290 from York Street.

Retail theft

  • A man stole several bottles of liquor about 5 p.m. Thursday at Whole Foods Market, 215 S. Route 83. He was seen leaving in a blue or silver Chevrolet Impala with a driver waiting.
  • A man stole five packs of cigarettes and chips about 3:30 a.m. Sunday at Thornton's gas station, 476 N. York St. The suspect was last seen running south on York. The man was described as black, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7, and in his 40s.

Bicycle issues

  • A green Raleigh bicycle was stolen about 10 p.m. Saturday in an open garage in the 400 block of South Prospect. The suspect was described as a white man, 20 to 30 years old, having short dark hair, and wearing dark shorts and a white T-shirt with a large dark circle on the back.
  • A white Avigo bicycle and fire extinguisher were found about 3 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of North Hampshire Avenue. The items were placed into evidence.
  • A locked bicycle in a bike rack was stolen between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of West First Street.

Hospital theft

  • A resident in the 700 block of North Parker Street told police Sunday that someone stole two gold bracelets, three checks and a new iPhone from her room at the hospital. She was there for two weeks.
