ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst School District 205 has revealed the amount of its settlement with a former employee.
Diana Garcia, a technology support specialist who was fired by the district in 2024, is receiving $42,500 as part of her agreement with the school board.
She is getting the money in return for dropping her federal lawsuit against the district.
According to the settlement, the amounts are designated in thirds for alleged compensatory damages, alleged lost wages and attorney fees.
The settlement states that the money will come from the district, its insurer or both.
The district has posted the agreement to its website. Patch received it through a public records request.
The agreement states that the board and Garcia denied allegations of unlawful conduct against each of them in the litigation.
The board approved the agreement during a meeting a couple of weeks ago, but did not disclose the settlement amount.
Patch wrote about the litigation last month.
Garcia, who sued the district a year ago, alleged the school violated her rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act.
In return, the district said it fired her for committing "time theft" in one instance.
