Shiney Simon, a nurse clinician in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and resident of Addison received the monthly Daisy Award recognition.
Simon’s supervisor received a letter from the daughter of a patient complimenting the extraordinary care that Simon provided her mother during a long stay in the CCU. The daughter herself was a patient care assistant and noted that she has worked with many nurses over the years and none of them paid such attention to the small details and providing comfort as Simon did with her mother.
She also commented on the great detail Simon provided the doctors with in order for them to make the right decisions for treatment. She said that Simon’s commitment made all the difference in the world to her, her mother and the rest of her family. She expressed gratitude for Simon’s attention and care during her mother’s final days. Simon gave the best gift she could to this family in their time of need. The family was touched and comforted by the care their loved one received. Simon’s supervisor confirmed her nobility.

“Shiney really optimizes what a caring and compassionate nurse is and she reflects those attributes every single day,” said Jeanne Laraia, assistant clinical manager of the CCU.
The care and compassion Simon showed to this patient earned her a nomination and the award as the Daisy Award winner of the month. The Daisy Award honors nurses like Simon for their excellence in care giving. The award was created to honor the memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died of a disease called idiopathic thrombocytopenia Purpura. Along with a certificate and a pin, Simon enjoyed a Cinnabon breakfast, a favorite of Barnes, with her nursing unit.
