Animal Cruelty, Stolen Car: Elmhurst Cops

Police are looking into suspected cruelty in a local neighborhood.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving animal cruelty, a stolen car, vandalism, a sick skunk, a possible bail bond violation, porch piracy, trespassing and damaged Christmas lights. Here is information from the latest police reports:

Animal cruelty

  • Police reported an animal cruelty investigation at the apartment complex at 485 W. St. Charles Road. They were called Monday.

  • An officer saw a 2019 silver Hyundai Elantra parked with its driver's side rear window down about 1 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of South York Street. A registration check showed the car had been stolen in Chicago. Chicago police and the owner were notified.

Vandalism

  • Graffiti was scrawled about 1:30 p.m. Monday on the back wall at 7-Eleven convenience store, 155 E. First St. An investigation is pending.

Skunk killed

  • An officer killed a sick skunk about 11 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of South Chandler Avenue. Police said the animal was properly disposed of.

Possible bail violation

  • Officers responded about 2 p.m. Monday at Elmhurst University, 190 E. Prospect Ave., for a possible bail bond violation. An investigation is pending.

Bicycle found

  • A purple girls Roadmaster mountain bike was reported found Monday at Timothy Christian Schools, 1061 S. Prospect Ave. It had been there for a couple of days. It was entered into evidence for safekeeping.

Porch piracy

  • Someone stole a package 10:30 a.m. Nov. 20 from the lobby at Elm Creek Apartments, 1 Elm Creek Drive. The theft was reported Tuesday.

Trespassing

  • A resident in the 600 block of South Poplar Avenue told police Tuesday that a person showed up at her home banging on the door. A no-trespass notice was given to the person.

Christmas lights damaged

  • Someone cut the electric cord for Christmas lights about 5 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of South Boyd Avenue.
  • Someone cut the electric cord for Christmas lights about 5 p.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 134 W. Arthur St.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 500 block of South Edgewood Avenue told police Monday that someone attempted to open credit cards in the resident's name and change his address with the post office. An investigation is pending.
  • A resident in the 200 block of North Willow Road told police Monday that someone tried to buy a car under his name. An investigation is pending.
  • A resident in the 400 block of South Arlington Avenue told police Monday that someone applied for a loan in her name. No monetary loss was reported because the loan was not issued. An investigation is pending.
  • A resident in the 700 block of North Emroy Avenue told police that someone used his personal information to open a ComEd account at his old house.
