In a search of his pickup truck, officers found a loaded Glock 26 semiautomatic pistol with 16 rounds and one bullet in the chamber, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. They also found open alcohol in the vehicle.

"Thankfully, no innocent motorists were injured as a result of Mr. Edwards’ alleged actions," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

Edwards was charged with being an armed habitual criminal, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He also faces lesser charges of resisting a police officer, DUI and transportation of open alcohol by a driver.

DuPage County Judge George Ford granted prosecutors' request to keep Edwards in jail until his trial.

Edwards was on probation for a 2022 theft in DuPage County, authorities said.
