Award-winning artist exhibits at Elmhurst Artists' Guild gallery

Annette Perone Leiber

With more than 200 awards to her name, Addison artist Annette Perone Leiber is hosting an exhibition of her artwork from October 25 through December 4 in the Elmhurst Artists’ Guild gallery at the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 Cottage Hill Ave., Elmhurst. Entitled “Intrinsic,” the show includes some 75 works of art in mixed media paintings, mixed media sculpture and watercolor in abstract and impressionistic styles.

An artist’s reception, free and open to the public, is scheduled for Friday, October 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the EAG gallery.

According to Leiber, the exhibit includes work done within the last 20 years but concentrates on pieces completed within the last five years. Her artwork is included in public and private collections throughout the U.S. and abroad, including the White House. Among the citations she has received are AAUW Woman of Distinction in 2003 and the Sidney R. Yates Arts Advocacy Award in 1993 by the Illinois Arts Alliance Foundation. She obtained her BA with a Comprehensive Art major from Northern Illinois University.

Leiber says that her works of art were inspired by her exposure to images viewed on an electron microscope. “Viewing the natural wonders close-up led me to go my own way as an artist,” she said, “For instance, the compound eye of an insect, a spinal cord or mushroom fungus will take on an abstract quality when incorporated on a canvas with fiber, modeling paste, cheese cloth and found objects.”

The Leiber exhibit can be viewed during regular Museum hours, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm; Thursday and Friday from 11 am to 7 pm. The first Friday of each month is the Museum’s free admission day. At other times, admission for adults is $8 and for seniors $7. EAM members, students and children under 18 are admitted free.
