Bed Jumper, Found Guns: Elmhurst Cops

A person jumping on another's bed is suspected of assault, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving assault, guns, theft, battery, harassment, drunk people and fugitive drivers. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Assault

  • A resident in the 600 block of North West Avenue told police that a person jumped on his bed and tried to strike him about 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The suspect left before an officer arrived. No arrests were made because of a lack of evidence, witnesses and cooperation.

  • A rusted Taurus pistol with an extended magazine and a rusty Polymer 80 were found on the roof of a business Friday in the 900 block of North Oaklawn Avenue. The guns were believed to have been deposited within the last three months. The Taurus was listed as stolen in Detroit, while the Polymer 80 did not have a serial number.

Injury

  • A woman lost control while riding her son's electric scooter about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of North Emery Lane. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Theft

  • Two Adirondack chairs were stolen between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday from the parkway in front of a house in the 100 block of North Elm Avenue. It was part of the preparation for a block party.
  • Solar-powered garden lights were stolen overnight Thursday from a front walkway in the 400 block of East Adams Street.

Battery

  • A woman told police that someone struck her in the head during an argument about 1:30 a.m. Saturday at the Grove of Elmhurst nursing home, 127 W. Diversey Ave. An officer was unable to contact the suspect. An investigation is pending.

Disturbance

  • A woman told police that two teens banged on her front door and threw a yard sign toward the front door shortly after midnight Saturday in the 300 block of South Kenilworth Avenue. The report did not indicate the type of sign.

Harassment

  • A man in the 200 block of West Kimbell Avenue told police Thursday that someone asked him to change other employees' work hours. The man refused to do so, so the suspect harassed him with phone calls. An investigation is pending.

Drunk people

  • Police responded about 8 p.m. in the 100 block of West Adelaide Street for a report of a drunk man. The man said he was unsure how long he had been lying on the ground. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
  • Police responded about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of North Michigan Street for a drunk person in a resident's backyard passed out in the grass. The person was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Fugitive drivers

  • About 12:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Road and Route 83, an officer tried to stop the driver of a car that was reported as stolen in Chicago. The driver sped away, last seen headed east on St. Charles.
  • An officer tried to stop the driver of a gray Infiniti QX56 who was weaving between lanes about 1:30 a.m. Sunday near Shady Lane and North Avenue. The driver fled. An investigation is pending.
