The Beethoven Cello Sonatas

Summer Music at Bethel will feature the cello sonatas of Beethoven in a two-concert celebration, live and in person at Bethel United Church of Christ on Sunday, July 24, 5:00 p.m. Artists featured are cellist Timothy Archbold and Music at Bethel Artistic Director pianist Jeffrey Panko. The five cello sonatas of Beethoven are a wonderful showcase of the development of Beethoven’s compositional style from his early to late period writings, as the first was written in 1796, and the last in 1815. The first concert will present Sonata 1 in F major, Op. 5 No. 1 and Sonata 5 in D major, Op. 102 No. 2.

The concert will last approximately 1 hour, without intermission.

Timothy Archbold is an Australian cellist currently playing with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Chicago, Skylight Theater, and as associate principal with the Northwest
Indiana Symphony Orchestra. He received his undergraduate degree in Music from the University of Melbourne, Australia then studied chamber music and cello performance in Germany for five years at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen and European Chamber Music Academy in Hannover. He went on to receive his master’s degree in music from Wichita State University where he played with the Graduate String Quartet and the Wichita Symphony.

World-class, award-winning pianist Jeffrey Panko is a regular performer in the concert series, both as soloist and collaborator. He has been featured in performances at Carnegie Hall, Weill
Recital Hall, Lincoln Center Library, WQXR Radio (New York), is a frequent performer on WFMT Radio (Chicago), and has appeared in Symphony Center playing the music of Steven Sondheim for Mr. Sondheim. Panko has served as the Artistic Director of the concert series since its inception.

Bethel United Church of Christ is located at 315 East St. Charles Road in Elmhurst. A freewill donation will be taken at the door.
