ELMHURST, IL – A former employee of an Elmhurst business returned and punched a worker, leading to a bloody fight, local police said.

Guadalupe Escamilla Solis, 29, of Evanston, was arrested afterward, which Patch reported last week. On Tuesday, Patch obtained the full police report through a public records request.

The incident took place about 8 a.m. Nov. 28 at food machinery supplier Latini-Hohberger Dhimantec, 893 N. Industrial Drive, where Solis was fired earlier this year, police said.

When five Elmhurst officers showed up, they saw two bloodied men, with Escamilla holding a box cutter, according to the report.

Surveillance footage showed Solis entering the warehouse and walking toward a 53-year-old employee and punching him in the face, police said.

The worker retreated by pushing a work cart in front of Solis, but Solis moved it away. Then the worker, who had already been holding a hammer, struck Solis several times with it, police said.

The strikes did not faze Solis, who then hit the employee a few more times, the report said. They were taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Solis was barred from the property, having been issued a no-trespass notice, police said. But police said he went on the property a day earlier.

In their interviews with police at the hospital, both men said they did not know each other.

Solis told officers that he was fired from a job earlier that morning in Franklin Park after he showed up late. He said he went to the Elmhurst business because he wanted to speak to a former friend there about possible side jobs until he found full-time work.

He said he parked his car away from the company because he knew he was not supposed to be there.

Walking through an unlocked entrance, Solis told officers the worker approached him and "flinched" toward him, Solis said. He saw the employee had a hammer.

Perceiving that as a threat, Solis told officers he then punched the man, police said.

Solis was charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of armed violence, all felonies.

Elmhurst Hospital cleared Solis to go to jail on Dec. 2.

A DuPage County judge ordered Solis to remain in jail until his trial, according to jail records.
