Brick Thrown Through Elmhurst House Window: Cops

In another case, a car was burglarized in a local neighborhood, with the steering column stolen, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a brick thrown through a window, a car burglary, a fall, a woman worried about her boyfriend, theft, fugitive drivers, a custody issue and a stolen car. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Broken window

  • A resident told police about hearing a loud noise and finding a window pane shattered by a brick about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of North Highland Avenue. Officers checked the area, but did not find a suspect. An investigation is pending.

  • A car's window was broken between 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Argyle Avenue. Part of the steering column was removed.

Fall

  • A person requested medical help for a head injury about 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 500 block of South Fairfield Avenue. The person did not know how the injury occurred. The person was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Worried about boyfriend

  • A woman visited the police station Saturday and said she had not seen her boyfriend since he was released from police custody and picked up by an unknown friend. The woman later discovered her boyfriend had returned home.

Theft

  • An employee left her pink Apple iPhone 13 on a table in the Elmhurst Hospital staff lounge about 3:25 p.m. Wednesday. When she returned 15 minutes later, it was stolen. Attempts to locate the phone using the find-the-phone application were unsuccessful.
  • A resident at The Grove nursing home, 127 W. Diversey Ave., told police Friday that someone stole cash from a bedside drawer on Sept. 12.

Fugitive drivers

  • The driver of a blue Hyundai Sonata who fled from Villa Park police was seen about 8 p.m. Friday at Kenilworth and Fremont. Villa Park police took custody of the suspect, ticketing and then releasing the person.
  • An officer tried to stop the driver of a black Jeep Patriot about 10 p.m. Friday at Roosevelt Road and Route 83 for improper lane usage. However, the driver sped away, last seen heading east on Roosevelt Road from York Street.
  • An officer tried to stop the driver of a four-door Kia shortly before midnight Friday at Roosevelt Road and Route 83 for speeding. The driver failed to stop and sped away east on Roosevelt Road from York Street.

Custody issue

  • A man told police Saturday that the mother of his daughter refused to drop her off at the place listed in their court order, Portillo's, 155 S. Route 83. The case was listed as unlawful visitation interference. An investigation is pending.

Stolen car

  • Police stopped a tow truck about 3:30 p.m. Saturday that was carrying a car that was reported stolen in Villa Park. Villa Park police responded and took custody of the car.

Retail theft

  • Goodwill Store, 675 W. North Ave., told police that someone stole merchandise about 3 p.m. Thursday. An investigation is pending.
