Burglaries Way Down In Elmhurst: Annual Report

ELMHURST, IL – In 2022, reported residential burglaries in Elmhurst plunged to their lowest point in eight years.

Last year, 11 residential burglaries were reported, down from 14 in 2021, according to the police department's annual report.

From 2015 to 2020, the average was 31 residential burglaries a year.

Overall, the violent crime rate fell by 33 percent in 2022 compared with a year earlier, while the property crime rate increased by 27 percent, police said.

Elmhurst experienced a 20 percent increase in total crime in 2022, but that's compared to a historically low year in 2021, according to the annual report. Still, 2022's levels were marginally lower than 2019 and 2020.

One major crime category is domestic battery. In 2022, the number of reported such offenses dropped to 99, from 110 a year earlier. The average from 2015 to 2020 was 103, about two a week.

The annual report is set to be presented to a City Council committee on Monday.
