Car Break-Ins, Drunk Men: Elmhurst Cops
Three car burglaries were reported in a local neighborhood, with a wallet stolen, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving car burglaries, drunk men, deception, harassment, theft, found bullets and stalking. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Car burglaries
- While on patrol, an officer saw a parked car's passenger door ajar about 2 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of North Oak Street. Video showed that a man entered the victim's car and stole a diaper bag. The suspect, whose race was unidentified, wore a ski mask, gloves, a dark camouflage shirt, tight-fitting black pants and white shoes. Two blocks away, someone entered two unlocked cars around the same time in the 300 block of North Myrtle Avenue. Nothing appeared to be stolen from one car. A wallet was taken from the other, but it was recovered in Chicago. An investigation is pending.
Drunk

- Officers were called about 7 a.m. Sunday to check on the well-being of a man lying on a front lawn in the 200 block of North Oak Street. The man said he decided to walk home after drinking the night before. He said he did not remember lying down and falling asleep. A family member arrived and took the man home.
- An officer responded about 8:30 a.m. Saturday to the train depot, 128 W. First St., for a homeless man begging for money. The man was found to be drunk and was taken to Elmhurst Hospital. Six hours later, officers responded again to the same place for the man. He was unable to care for himself and was taken to the hospital again.
Deception
- An employee at Clarion Hotel, 933 S. Riverside Drive, told police that someone called the desk impersonating a hotel representative Thursday. The suspect gained access to the desk computer and threatened to disseminate guest information. The hotel's information technology department was notified. An investigation is pending.
Harassment

- Someone reported receiving unwanted text messages Aug. 21 while at the Superior Ambulance headquarters, 395 W. Lake St.
Theft
- A woman told police that her iPhone 11 was stolen after she set it down on a desk in the break room about 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Portillo's, 155 S. Route 83. The phone was later found in an apron at a co-worker's residence. The suspect said he did not know the phone was in his apron. The phone was returned to the woman without any problems.
Bullets found
- On Friday, an employee of Enterprise Rent-a-Car, 856 N. York St., found a magazine and bullets in a car that had been repossessed because of nonpayment. The magazine and bullets were collected and placed into evidence for safekeeping.
Stalking
- A man told police Friday that someone was stalking him at a business at 321 W. Lake St. An investigation is pending.
Fugitive driver
- About 3:30 p.m. Thursday at North Avenue and Route 83, an officer tried to stop a green Toyota Sienna minivan that was reported stolen in Chicago. The driver sped away, heading east on Interstate 290.
Bicycles found
- Two bicycles were found about 9 a.m. Thursday at Poplar and Cayuga. One was a black Huffy, and the other was a red SE Bronco racing bicycle. They were placed into evidence for safekeeping.
