Chronic Nuisance, Loud Bangs: Elmhurst Police

A homeowner in an Elmhurst neighborhood was given a nuisance warning, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a chronic nuisance, loud bangs, theft, attempted burglary, unwanted guns, a confrontation and a domestic disturbance, among other incidents. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Chronic nuisance

  • A chronic nuisance warning was issued June 28 to a household in the 200 block of South Pick Avenue. The police did not indicate which house. Late last month, a resident in the block was charged in two gun-related incidents, according to a report.

  • A resident in the 300 block of East Cayuga Avenue woke to three loud bangs about 11 p.m. Friday. She checked the living room and did not see any damage. Upon leaving in the morning, she saw a circular hole in the center of her living room picture window. An officer did not find any items that may have caused the damage.

Man found in parkway

  • About 7 p.m. Monday, officers and medics responded to a man who was found lying unresponsive in the parkway near York and Cayuga. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An investigation is pending.

  • An officer found graffiti about 7:30 a.m. Thursday in several places on the seventh floor in the parking deck, 149 N. Addison Ave. The public works department was notified.
  • While patrolling the parking deck at 149 N. Addison Ave., an officer found a red plastic fire extinguisher case broken. The case was on the north side of the third level.

Theft

  • Three youths were seen on a campus-owned golf cart about 11 p.m. Wednesday at Elmhurst University, 190 S. Prospect. A representative of the university attempted to speak with the youths in the walkway to Grace Avenue, but they got into a black SUV and drove away. Officers searched the area, but could not find the suspects.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 600 block of Van Auken Avenue told police Friday that someone used his personal information to open a fraudulent Comcast Xfinity account.
  • A resident in the 400 block of West Butterfield Road told police Friday that someone stole a credit card and money from her wallet on April 20. A fraudulent charge was made the same day and eventually credited to her account. The victim was issued a new card.

Attempted burglary

  • A man was seen working his way through a parking lot with a coat hanger attempting to open car doors about 1 p.m. Friday at 960 N. Industrial Drive. One car's driver's side door window trim was damaged. The man was described as Hispanic and wearing a blue hat, a blue shirt, a white T-shirt, white pants and black shoes.

Graffiti

  • About 10 p.m. Friday, an officer found graffiti on the door of the Sunbeams and Rainbows preschool at Crestview Park, 245 E. Crestview.

Rifles relinquished

  • A resident in the 300 block of East Ridge Avenue on Saturday found two hunting rifles that belonged to her deceased husband. She wanted the guns destroyed. An officer received the weapons and placed them into evidence for destruction.

Confrontation

  • A woman became confrontational about 6:30 p.m. Saturday on the property at 126 S. York St. She was served with a no-trespass notice.

Fireworks

  • A person put a lit firework in between the glass storm door and the front door of a house about 11 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of East Madison Street. An officer checked the home's exterior, but did not see any tampering or damage to the home.

Domestic disturbance

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 4:30 a.m. Sunday on Elm Creek Drive. Two people got into an argument that turned physical. Because of conflicting statements, no arrests were made. The person who called the police left.

Bike issues

  • A red and black Dynacraft Gauntlet bicycle was abandoned Sunday at the northwest corner of St. Charles and Prospect. The bicycle was placed into evidence for safekeeping.
  • A gray and black GT Aggressor Pro bicycle was left in an open garage about 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of South Parkside. Upon the owner's return about 15 minutes later, the bike was stolen.

Unwanted at store

  • Employees at Walgreens, 160 N. Robert Palmer Drive, told police Monday that a woman regularly visited the store to return items she had bought, only to leave with the same items. The business declined to pursue charges, but officers gave the woman a no-trespass notice.

Theft suspect

  • Elmhurst University, 190 S. Prospect Ave., told police about 9:30 p.m. Monday about a suspect who matched the description of a person who was seen on video surveillance footage removing locked bicycles from bike racks last Wednesday. The person was told he was not allowed on university property.

Drug possession

  • Tevarius Robinson, 25, of Country Club Hills, was arrested at 1 a.m. Sunday at Route 83 and North on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Driving violations

  • Omar Ortiz, 33, of Chicago, was cited about 5 p.m. Saturday at York and Fullerton on charges of driving with a suspended license, driving a vehicle while using a phone and driving an uninsured vehicle. He was released on bond.
  • Rene Felix Pascual, 21, of Bensenville, was cited about 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Grand and Industrial on charges of no valid driver's license and improper lighting. He was released on bond.
  • Jose Santiago de Avila, 27, of Villa Park, was cited about 8 a.m. Monday at North Avenue and Michigan Street on charges of no valid driver's license and tinted windows. He was released on bond.
