Coldwell Banker Ranks Elmhurst Among Top 20 Most Expensive Places to Live in Illinois

Elmhurst ranks No. 12, with an average listing price of $431,651.

According to the 2011 Home Listing Report recently released by Coldwell Banker, Elmhurst homes are among the state's most expensive. 

The report reviewed average listing prices for homes with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Of the 139 real estate markets reviewed in Illinois, Elmhurst slides in at number 12.

Those looking to move to Elmhurst will pay an average of $431,651 for a four bedroom, two bathroom home. That's about $322,000 less than the most expensive market in Illinois, Lake Forest, which averages $753,543.

"Elmhurst is a very desirable area, with great schools, a wonderful community filled with family oriented activities, a lively downtown area and of course our brand new hospital," said Nancy Thunberg, managing broker at Coldwell Banker Elmhurst. "Besides being designated as No. 12 on the most-expensive list, Elmhurst also offers a wide range of single-family homes under $300,000 (that are) affordable and attractive."

Wheaton rounds out the Top 20 list for Illinois, with an average home price of $403,190.

Newport Beach, Calif., led the list of most expensive U.S. real estate markets for the second year in a row, with an average home listing price of $2.5 million. The most affordable U.S. market in the report is Niagara Falls, N.Y., which has an average home listing price of $61,000, according to the report.
