VILLA PARK, Ill. – Legislation aimed to address and reach solutions to the problem of heroin use by youth in our communities passed the Senate last week. State Rep. Deb Conroy (D-Villa Park) sponsored House Bill 4542 to broaden the scope of the statewide Young Adult Heroin Task Force, to include middle-school students in addition to high-school students.

“With the startling increase in heroin related deaths in our communities, we must take action and work to get this dangerous drug out of our communities,” Conroy said. “We need to be looking at every avenue and ensure that we are working proactively keep heroin out of the hands of young people.”

In 2013 DuPage County reported a record 46 heroin related deaths.   In an effort to raise awareness about the growing problem of heroin use in the community Rep. Conroy is partnering with Serenity House and local municipalities to produce a documentary detailing the risks and tragic results of heroin use.
