Cops Use Tasers On Villa Park Suspect: Prosecutors

Villa Park officers found the suspect in a grocery store parking lot. Then he led them on a chase, police said.

VILLA PARK, IL – A car that was used in a chase several days ago was the subject of a pursuit again Wednesday in Villa Park.

Oscar Salazar, 35, of Addison, was arrested on felony aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer and multiple misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses, including aggravated speeding in a school zone, police said.

About 9 p.m. Wednesday, Villa Park police saw a car in the parking lot at Jewel, 33 E. St. Charles Road, that authorities pursued a few days earlier in Bloomingdale.

After a brief surveillance, the driver, identified as Salazar, pulled out of the parking lot, with officers following for about a mile. Then other officers joined in.

When the officers activated their emergency lights near Addison Road and Division Street, Salazar did not pull over, according to a news release from DuPage County prosecutors.

Salazar ran a stop sign at Sunset Drive, with an officer deploying tire-deflating devices, police said. That disabled Salazar's right front tire.

Salazar then ran stoplights and headed west on North Avenue, reaching speeds of 80 mph, prosecutors said.

Officers again deployed the deflation devices, damaging the right front tire. As Salazar tried to enter Interstate 355, more devices were put across the road, finally forcing Salazar to stop, police said.

After Salazar refused commands to get out, officers deployed their Tasers, prosecutors said. Salazar was then apprehended.
