In Daylight, Armed Suspects Seen In Elmhurst: Cops

They were trying to break into cars in a local neighborhood, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – Suspects tried to enter cars in the daylight Sunday morning in an Elmhurst neighborhood, police said. One was said to be holding a handgun.

About 7:25 a.m., a witness saw the suspects attempt to enter a parked car in the 100 block of East Columbia Avenue.

Minutes later, another person saw the suspects try to get into a car in the 300 block of North Larch Avenue, a couple of blocks away, police said. They left west on North Avenue in a black Kia Optima four-door sedan.

The suspects were described as three men, with possibly another suspect as a driver, wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks. No other information on their descriptions was available.

Police said they issued a CodeRED message to alert residents while officers searched for the black sedan and suspects, who were believed to be no longer in the area.

Police said they were working with other suburban agencies that reported similar incidents the same morning.
