Disorderly Driver, False Alarm: Elmhurst Cops

A woman told police that a youth drove recklessly and gave her the middle finger, report says.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving disorderly conduct, a false alarm, a battery at the high school, a sexual assault, a job scam, harassment and identity theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Disorderly driver

  • A woman told police that a driver behind her blew the horn, drove recklessly and displayed his middle finger after she made a food delivery. The suspect left, but then came back doing the same thing. The youth suspect was charged with disorderly conduct and released to his mother. The incident happened about 3 p.m. Tuesday near Swain and Adams.

False alarm

  • Youths pounded on doors, rang doorbells, said "building on fire" and then damaged property about 6 p.m. Monday at Elmhurst 255 Apartments, 255 N. Addison Ave. The youths were found and released to the custody of their parents. An investigation is pending.

School battery

  • A battery was reported March 15 at York High School, 355 S. Charles Road. An investigation is pending.

  • Someone forged electronic checks March 16 from a business at 650 W. Grand Ave.

Sexual assault

  • An officer went to Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, on Monday in response to a patient who reported a sexual assault. A nurse told the officer that the patient did not want a police investigation or to be contacted.

Job scam

  • A resident in the 400 block of West Fremont told police Tuesday that a company called North Texas Contracting, which is on LinkedIn, hired her to draw art. The company said it would pay her for the artwork. The company then sent her a check for more than the agreed-upon amount, telling her to deposit it and send back a specified amount on the check. The resident deposited the check, but did not send the money. The check was later found to be fraudulent.

Harassment

  • A resident in the 300 block of North Ridgeland told police Wednesday that her cousin was harassing her by calling and texting repeatedly. The resident told him to stop contacting her, but he has not. An officer contacted the cousin and told him a warrant would be issued if he continued.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 400 block of North Addison Avenue told police Monday that someone claiming to be from PayPal attempted to gain access to the resident's bank account after telling the resident he was due a refund. The victim contacted his bank and found there to be no suspicious activity. The resident was advised to change his account number.
  • A resident in the 100 block of Poplar told police that someone opened two Wells Fargo accounts using his information. The bank closed the accounts. No loss was reported. The fraudulent activity started Jan. 29.
  • A resident in the 200 block of East Crescent told police Wednesday that someone used the resident's identity to open a credit card account at Home Depot in Oakbrook Terrace. A purchase was attempted, but was declined.

DUI

  • Derrick Bradshaw, 29, of Chicago, was arrested shortly after midnight Tuesday at Lexington and York on charges of DUI (drugs), possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of more than 100 grams of marijuana, no insurance, driving with a suspended license and illegal parking in the roadway. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Driving violations

  • Juan Ayala, 20, of Melrose Park, was cited about 8:30 p.m. Monday at North and Berteau on charges of driving with a suspended license, illegal transportation of alcohol and speeding. He was released on bond.
  • Destiny Walker, 19, of Chicago, was cited about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at York and Crestview on charges of no valid driver's license, failure to dim headlights, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and tinted windows. She was released on bond.
  • Leonel Escalante, 22, of Bensenville, was cited about 6 a.m. Tuesday at York and Grand on charges of no valid driver's license and speeding. He was released on bond.
