Disrupted Class, Restaurant Burglary: Elmhurst Cops
Someone interferes with class by writing vulgar message, report says.
ELMHURST, IL — In recent days, Elmhurst police responded to issues involving a disrupted middle school class, a skate park fight, a burglary at a restaurant and driving violations. Here is information from the latest police reports:
Disrupted class
- The principal of Bryan Middle School told police Tuesday that a week earlier, someone had gained access to a seventh-grade gym class Zoom meeting and typed a vulgar statement. An investigation continues.
Burglary/theft

- McDonald's, 920 N. York St., was burglarized about 3 a.m. Tuesday. When employees opened the front door about 4 a.m., they heard the safe alarm going off. They saw broken glass from the drive-thru window and a safe that had been cut open. Surveillance video showed two people breaking the drive-through window and crawling across the floor to the office. The police had no description beyond what the people were wearing. They had one backpack.
- The rear tires and rims from two cars were stolen while they were parked in the lot at Napleton Kia between 3 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday.
Dog bites
- A person told police that while walking his dog Tuesday in the 600 block of Howard Avenue, a dog came out from a backyard and bit him and his dog. When an officer spoke to the dog owner later, she said she had put it down because it had been the second incident.
- A man told police that a golden retriever chased him and his dog about 8 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of East Grantley Avenue. The golden retriever bit the man's dog on the front left leg.

- A person at the skate park at 665 S. York St. became aggressive toward someone else about 2 p.m. Wednesday, taking candy out of his backpack and passing it out to his friends. When the victim tried to get his backpack, the suspect threw the victim to the ground, causing injury. The suspect was charged with battery and released to his parents.
- A woman informed police she was arguing with a suspect about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of South Poplar Avenue when the person grabbed her arms and shook her. The other person denied touching the woman. There were no signs of injuries, and the suspect left the residence.
Deception
- An employee of Midas, 570 W. North Ave., told police Wednesday that a woman dropped off her car for an engine replacement. She provided a cashier's check and was given a loaner car for 13 days. Midas later learned the cashier's check bounced because the account was closed. The woman told police she was unable to pay for the repairs. An investigation continues.
Arrests
- Yohana Bellani Mejia-Cano, 20, of Addison, was cited at 7 p.m. Monday at Industrial and Grand on charges of no valid driver's license and improper lighting. He was released on bond.
- Tania Fernandez-Tania, 19, of Addison, was cited shortly before 9 p.m. Monday at York and North on charges of driving with a suspended license and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. She was released on bond.
- Vitalino Galicia, 43, of Addison, was cited shortly after midnight Tuesday at York and Wood Glen on charges of no valid driver's license and improper lane usage. He was released on bond.
- Candelaria S. Paxtor-Gramajo, 31, of Chicago, was cited about 4 p.m. Tuesday at North and Clinton on charges of no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. She was released on bond.
- James Humphries, 22, of Berkeley, was arrested at 9 p.m. Tuesday at South Bryan and Butterfield on charges of DUI, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol and speeding. He was released on bond.
- Paul Balice, 38, of Elmhurst, was cited about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of driving on the sidewalk. According to a police report, he was riding a dirt bike in Eldridge Park.
- Rishabh D. Mistry, 20, was cited about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of Butterfield on charges of driving with a suspended license and speeding. The suspect was released on bond.
- Irvin Valdez, 23, of Melrose Park, was cited shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday on charges of possession of marijuana by a driver, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. He was released on bond.
- Treyvon Love, 26, of Elgin, was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at North York and Crestview on a warrant and a charge of speeding. He was released on bond.
- DeJanira Peoples, 25, of Mishawaka, Ind., was cited about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at East North and Interstate 290 on charges of driving with a suspended license and improper lighting. She was released on bond.
- Maxwell Higgins, 25, of Westmont, was cited shortly after midnight Thursday at West St. Charles and Route 83 on charges of driving with a suspended license and speeding. He was released on bond.
