Dog Bite, Attempted Fraud: Elmhurst Cops

An Elmhurst woman was cited after her dog bit a pedestrian, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a dog bite, attempted fraud, a package theft, a stolen car, retail theft and downed power lines, among other incidents. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Dog bite

  • Angelica Herrera, 43, of Elmhurst, was cited at 9 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of South Spring Road on a charge of having a dog at large. According to a police report, Herrera's dog got loose and bit a woman walking on the sidewalk, causing injuries.

  • A resident in the 500 block of West Lorraine Avenue told police Tuesday that someone contacted him about buying a bed frame that the resident was trying to sell on Facebook Marketplace. The person mailed the resident a check for $2,650 to include moving and shipping costs. The resident deposited the check and was notified by his bank that the check was fraudulent. The crime was listed as attempted fraud.

Package theft

  • A cash register was stolen between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Pilot Pete's Coffee & Treats, 128 W. First St. The victim told police he packaged the cash register to return it. It was placed by the door waiting to be mailed back. An investigation is pending.

  • About 10 a.m. Monday, officers saw a GMC Savana that had been reported stolen. The driver was stopped in the 100 block of Roosevelt Road in Villa Park. The suspect was released to the custody of the Secretary of State's police, which reported the theft.

Bicycle theft

  • A boy locked his red Mongoose mountain bicycle last Thursday to the bike rack at the train depot, 128 W. First St. When he returned Monday, it was no longer there.

Retail theft

  • Two men stole two cases of beer about 7:30 p.m. Monday at Jewel, 944 S. York St. An investigation is pending.
  • Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, told police Monday that surveillance footage showed suspects stealing three vacuums. An investigation is pending.
  • A person stole a box of vape devices about 8:30 p.m Tuesday from Elmhurst Food and Liquor, 416 N. York St. The suspect was described as white, 20 to 25 years old, and wearing black hoodies, shorts and a yellow undershirt. An investigation is pending.

Power lines down

  • Officers responded with the fire department for the report of power lines down about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson and Hawthorne. A dump truck with its bed elevated in an upright position took down several power lines, damaged a utility pole and disconnected service drops. ComEd responded and secured service lines.

Converter thefts

  • A catalytic converter was stolen from a car between July 1 and Aug. 1 at Lake Street Auto Repairs, 612 W Lake St. The car was in the parking lot waiting to be repaired.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen from a black Infiniti about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jiffy Lube, 630 W. North Ave.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen from a car between 2 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Tuesday near Whole Foods Market, 215 S. Route 83.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen from a car between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bella Terra Elmhurst nursing home, 420 W. Butterfield Road.

Identity theft

  • A resident on Elm Creek Drive told police Monday that someone accessed her online Domino's account and ordered food. The resident contacted her bank and will be reimbursed.
