Domestic, Thrown Brick: Elmhurst Cops
A woman accused a man of choking her during an argument, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a domestic disturbance, a DUI, retail theft, identity theft, vandalism, fugitive drivers and a burglary. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Domestic disturbance
- Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 5 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex at 100 E. Diversey Ave. A woman told police her boyfriend was refusing to leave after an argument. She accused him of choking her. The man said the argument did not get physical. No arrests were made because of conflicting statements, no witnesses and no signs of injury.

- A resident in the 600 block of South Prospect Avenue told police that someone threw a brick through a basement window about 9 p.m. Monday. A witness reported seeing a male walking north on Prospect before leaving in a four-door sedan. The suspect was described as either white or Hispanic, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-11, in his late teens, and wearing a jacket or sweatshirt with the hood up. An investigation is pending.
Guns found
- While repossessing a vehicle, S&J Towing and Recovery reported finding two handgun magazines, one of which was loaded with ammunition. The discovery occurred about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ole Auto Sales, 260 W. Grand Ave. An investigation is pending.
DUI

- A 36-year-old man from the 800 block of South Poplar Avenue in Elmhurst was arrested about 9 a.m. Tuesday at Spring and Butterfield roads on charges of DUI (drugs) and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was released on bond.
Retail theft
- A man stole a cart full of merchandise about 9:30 a.m. Monday at Mariano's, 678 N. York St. He was described as black, having long braids pulled up in a ponytail, and wearing blue jeans, gym shoes, possibly a yellow shirt, and a light blue jacket with white sleeves, yellow stripes on the sleeves and "Road Fortune" on the back in black letters.
Identity theft
- The owner of Elite Extrusion Technology, 744 N. Oaklawn Ave., told police Monday that someone filed paperwork to change the name of his company. An investigation is pending.
- A resident in the 900 block of South Cedar Avenue told police Monday that someone used her personal information to open a credit card in 2022.
Fugitive drivers
- An officer tried to stop the driver of a Mazda CX-5 about 10:30 p.m. Monday at Interstate 290 and York Street, but the person failed to stop and then fled, last seen heading east on Interstate 290.
- An officer tried to stop the driver of a red Hyundai Elantra about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at Berteau and North. The driver failed to stop and then sped east on Interstate 290. An investigation is pending.
Burglary
- An unlocked vehicle was burglarized about 1:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at The Fair Plumber, 846 N. York St. A man was seen getting out of a black Mazda and removing property from the other car. The man was described as Hispanic, 18 to 30 years old, and wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, white shoes and a black hoodie over his head with a ball cap.
Abandoned bikes
- Two abandoned bicycles were found about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday near Rex Boulevard and Prairie Path Lane. The bikes were placed into evidence for safekeeping.
Theft
- Wilkins Mazda, 750 N. York St., suspected a fired employee may have stolen a dealer license plate June 21. The business started receiving I-PASS notices for toll violations with the plate, which appears to be on the former employee's car. An investigation is pending.
- A woman told police Wednesday that someone stole five bags of clothing from her storage unit at 953 S. Route 83. An investigation is pending.
Fall
- A woman tripped on the edge of the sidewalk about 7 p.m. Wednesday at Elmhurst Avenue and Michigan Street. She was bleeding and taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
