Domestics, Missing People: Elmhurst Cops
Officers responded to two domestic disturbances in the last few days, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving domestic disturbances, missing people, damage, a Facebook scam, falls and an accident, among other incidents. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Domestic disturbances
- Police responded to a domestic disturbance shortly after midnight Monday in the 100 block of East South Street. A person said a suspect pepper-sprayed others. The suspect was arrested. Charges are pending, so the suspect's name was not released.
- Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of Poplar Avenue. During an argument, a man said another person slapped him and pulled his shirt during an argument. The other person denied hitting the man. Because of conflicting statements and no signs of injury, no arrests were made.
Missing people

- A man told police Monday that he was concerned that his mother had not returned after leaving the house to go for a walk. She was later found in a neighboring town.
- A resident of The Grove of Elmhurst's memory care unit, 127 W. Diversey Ave., left the building about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The nursing home was unable to find him. Officers found him a short distance from the facility. He was taken back to The Grove.
Damage
- Someone threw a beer bottle at the back window of a Toyota Camry between noon Monday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of South Hawthorne Avenue. An investigation is pending.
- Someone broke two glass windows and scrawled graffiti on the side of the building facing the alley about 8 a.m. Monday at 11 E. First St.
- A woman's company vehicle was keyed between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at 416 N. York.

- A resident in the 400 block of North Myrtle Avenue told police Monday that he was selling a generator on Facebook Marketplace when he received a text message from a potential buyer. The person sent a check to the resident and asked for some money back. The resident realized the check was fraudulent and did not send the suspect money.
Falls
- A woman tripped and fell when she was stepping over the curb onto the sidewalk about 3 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of East Schiller Street. Medics responded and checked the woman, who refused medical treatment.
- A runner tripped and fell on the sidewalk about 11 a.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of East Park Manor. Medics responded, but the man signed a refusal for medical treatment.
Muffler removal
- Someone cut the muffler from a car between Aug. 4 and Aug. 8 in the 100 block of West Butterfield Road. A saw blade was found near the car, and the muffler was found in the grass.
Accident
- A state Department of Transportation employee told police that he was helping load a roller onto a department trailer when it veered away and struck a parked department truck. It happened about 8 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of West Lake Street.
Converter theft
- A catalytic converter was stolen between Aug. 5 and Aug. 9 from a Ford Escape in the 100 block of West Butterfield Road.
Stolen package
- Someone stole a UPS package from a common area of the mailroom about 1 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of North Addison Avenue.
Fugitive driver
- An officer tried to stop a suspicious car about 8 p.m. Tuesday at North and Berteau. The driver sped away, last seen heading east on North Avenue. The car was later found, but not the driver.
Violation of order
- Victims in the 500 block of North Emroy Avenue told police that a suspect on Tuesday violated a 100-foot restriction in an order of protection. The officer determined the suspect did not violate the order.
Identity theft
- A resident in the 800 block of Hillcrest Avenue told police Tuesday that someone used her personal information in an attempt to open a fraudulent credit account.
- A man told police that someone used his personal information to buy a motorcycle about 6 p.m. Tuesday at iMotorsports, 334 W. Grand Ave. An investigation is pending.
