Downtown Assault, Stolen Gun: Elmhurst Cops

A man threatened people and tried to kick someone in the head, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving assault, a stolen gun, warrants, medical assistance and a car burglary. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Assault

  • James Porter, 55, of Wheaton, was arrested about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at the train station at 128 W. First St. on charges of assault, disorderly conduct and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said Porter threatened people, threw things and tried to kick someone in the head. He was released on bond.

  • Saifullah Diab, 33, of Norridge, was arrested about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fifth Third Bank, 990 N. York St., on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, forgery (two counts), theft and unlawful possession of a controlled substance (two counts). Police said Diab made several withdrawals from another person's bank account. They also said he had a stolen gun, an ecstasy pill and cocaine. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Assistance

  • A woman showed up at the police station about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. She was unable to answer basic questions and did not know what day of the week it was. An officer called the woman's son, who said his mother was suffering from memory issues. Medics arrived, but the son signed a refusal for treatment. The woman was released to her son.

Car burglary

  • An unlocked black Ford Escape was burglarized between 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday in the 900 block of South Stratford Avenue. Items inside the car were stolen.

Warrants

  • Andru J. Rivera, 22, of Chicago, was arrested about 11 a.m. Tuesday at North and Railroad avenues on a Cook County warrant. He was released on bond.
  • Isaiah Arroyo, 20, of Chicago, was arrested about 4 a.m. Wednesday on a DuPage County warrant. He turned himself in at the Elmhurst police station. He was released on bond.
  • Jonathan Stewart, 59, of Westmont, was arrested about 4 p.m. Wednesday at North Avenue and Route 83 on a Kendall County warrant. He was arrested after an ambulance was called about a person sleeping behind the wheel. He was released on bond.
