Downtown Elmhurst Purse Theft Involves Unlocked Car: Police

In another case, a hotel customer found a gun in a hotel room, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – In recent days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a purse theft, a found gun, a squad car hit by a DUI suspect, damage, theft, a car burglary and fireworks. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Purse thefts

  • A purse was removed from an unlocked car and put into a garbage can about 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of West Park Avenue. She discovered money was stolen from the purse. An investigation is pending.
  • A purse was stolen at some point last week from a woman who was taken from Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, to Elmhurst Extended Car Center nursing home, 200 E. Lake St. She said she had the purse in her possession the entire time. An investigation is pending.

Gun found

  • A customer found a gun in a safe about 2 p.m. Saturday in a room at Clarion Hotel, 933 S. Riverside Drive. Police took the gun for safekeeping. An investigation is pending.

Car burglary

  • An unlocked car in the 700 block of South Parkside Avenue was burglarized Tuesday and Thursday. Nothing appeared to be stolen.

  • A driver stopped and reversed into an officer's squad car about 10:30 p.m. Saturday near Route 83 and Roosevelt Road. This was during a traffic stop for improper lane usage. The woman was suspected of drunken driving with a child in the car. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital because of her extreme drunkenness. Charges are pending her discharge from the hospital.

Damage

  • An employee was believed to have slashed the front passenger side tire of a security vehicle about 3:30 p.m. Friday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. An investigation is pending.
  • A We Care Recycling donation box was tipped over between midnight and 3 a.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of West North Avenue. It resulted in minor damage.

Theft

  • A woman picked up her Super Ego semi-truck about 2:30 p.m. Friday at Super Ego Holding, 677 N. Larch Ave. Several of her personal belongings were stolen. The suspect denied having them.

Drunk

  • Officers saw a woman who was drunk about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of York Street. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Fall

  • A woman tripped and fell on a sidewalk about 10 a.m. Saturday near First Street and Addison Avenue. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Fireworks

  • Firefighters and an officer responded about 9:30 p.m. Sunday to a report of smoke coming from the lower level of the city's Larch Avenue parking garage. It was determined the smoke came from fireworks that were set off inside. No damage was found.
