Driver Rescued from Eldridge Park Lagoon Hospitalized in Critical Intensive Care
Police say officers dove into the pond to rescue the 77-year-old man.

The driver of a car who drove into a lagoon at Eldridge Park on Monday has been identified as Lawrence Morris, age 77 of the 400 block of Commonwealth, Elmhurst.
Morris is in critical intensive care at Elmhurst-Edwards Memorial Hospital, according to Elmhurst Police Chief Michael Ruth.
Morris drove a 2002 Toyota Camry at 1:37 p.m. from a parking lot at 363 Commonwealth Lane, over a curb and into the pond beyond the lot.

Morris was trapped inside the car, police reported. Witnesses told police they heard him calling for help as the car filled with water.
Elmhurst police officers and Oak Brook Terrace officers jumped in the water and dove to find Morris, who was unconscious. Morris was rescued and taken to the hospital.

The officers who rescued Morris were treated at the hospital and released.
