Duo Steal $10K In Items At Oak Brook Store: Cops

Two felony retail theft cases take place on the same day at a department store.

OAK BROOK, IL – Two migrants from Chile are accused of stealing $10,155 in merchandise from Oak Brook's Macy's, prosecutors said.

Early Tuesday night, Nicolas Paillacan-Bravo, 20, and David Saez-Vega, 34, removed anti-theft devices from items with a magnet they brought with them, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

The pair then placed 54 items into two suitcases they picked up in the luggage department, prosecutors said. They were met by officers outside the store.

A few hours earlier, four Venezuelan migrants – two women and two men – went to Macy's Tommy Hilfiger section, where they stole merchandise, police said. The women then selected shoes.

After that, the women went into a fitting room and left wearing the merchandise, prosecutors said. The items were valued at $927. They were met outside by a store employee.

The suspects were identified as Elvis Rodriguez-Rubio, 28; Gabriela Salzar-Vasquez, 30; Victor Sevilla-Arteaga, 33; and Danielis Vasquez-Arteaga, 27.

All six people face felony charges of burglary and retail theft. DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden rejected prosecutors' request to jail the suspects until trial.

"I believe that six felony arrests in one day illustrates that migrant criminal activity is a real problem," Oak Brook Police Chief Brian Strockis said in the news release. "The amount of these types of arrests that we have had in the last couple of months is significant and would be taxing for any police department."
